A WELCOME FROM THE OWNERS

We are the family behind this little piece of Pickering history, and we feel incredibly fortunate to care for such a special old cottage. Although we now live and work in Switzerland, North Yorkshire will always be home too. That’s where the name The Swiss Cottage comes from — a small connection between the two places we love most.

This is our family home, filled with happy memories and somewhere we always look forward to returning to. Rather than leave it empty when we’re away, we are delighted to share it with others who appreciate the character, history and charm of Pickering and the surrounding countryside.

We hope you’ll feel at home here as much as we do; whether you’re exploring the North York Moors, enjoying the town’s independent shops and cafés, or simply relaxing in the cottage after a day out.

We have stayed here with our 3 adult children and one partner and had a fantastic week from start to end. We booked directly with Carole and as others have said the communication is excellent . The cottage is so well equipped and has been a great base for exploring the area , although Pickering is so nice you could easily not venture far from  the cottage and have a full week . What a beautiful home. It gives a very welcoming vibe from the moment you walk through the front door. The real fire was a very welcome feature after some very cold days out. The furnishings and linens were all very comfortable and clean. The kitchen was well enough equipped to cook meals ( Although Pickering has some wonderful take away and eateries) the owners were unobtrusive but on hand via WhatsApp for any questions or queries you might have at any point. There are lots of features of this home that made it a very warm and welcoming place to stay . I love the little cow ornaments hidden around the house for you to find! Pickering itself is a great base. We have stayed in Pickering before and certainly will again and now that we have found Swiss Cottage that will always be our first choice for accommodation. Swiss Cottage is a home from home, everything you need and comfy and cosy, an excellent position being just 2 minutes from town, 2 minutes from the castle and 5 or so from the North Yorkshire Railway Station. The house is spacious, pristine clean, very comfortable beds and good quality linen and we loved the summerhouse for our morning coffee. I loved the view of the illuminated clock on the church spire and the bells marking the time. The house is full of personality and hasa great approach to recycling. Pickering is a joy, blessed with independent stores, an array of cafes, Caffee Stop being our fave, and can’t believe I’m going to say this, but fish and chips at the White Swan was better than that of a well known F&C in Whitby, imho. Pickering is an excellent place for exploring the area, Thornton le Dale just down the road, Malton close by, Whitby, Filey and Staithes an easy and beautiful drive away. Carole was super at managing communications,  prompt and informative and made us feel very welcome to stay at her property. We had a wonderful week staying in The Swiss Cottage. The house is comfortable and spacious with lots of homely touches. The garden is pleasant too with a cute sun house to shelter from the sun or use to stay in the garden during cooler weather. The steps were quite steep so our elderly dog struggled with those making the garden less suitable for him however younger dogs would be fine. Parking locally was no problem having unloaded outside the door. Pickering has such a lot to offer. Great cafés, pubs and restaurants with lots of cute, independent shops. We visited local attractions including Rievaulx Terrace (beautiful), Nunnington House, Marston and Helmsley. My highlight was Robin Hoods Bay! Had a lovely stay at Swiss Cottage over Easter in wonderful Pickering. The cottage is in a great location for the town centre and all other attractions. We love to cook when we are away and it was a pleasure to have such a well equipped kitchen and spacious dining area.
